G2 Finishing Line PLC 5 Hardware Migration

The G2 Finishing line control system hardware had reached end of life and required migration to the latest generation of devices as per Laminex site standards. This included migration to ControlLogix PLC system, 5094 Flex IO and 1756 conversion racks for the distributed IO hardware and SEW VFD’s.The scope of works included the design, supply, configuration, installation, programming, testing, and commissioning of the new PLC, IO hardware and VFD’s. This included upgrading the existing RIO network to Ethernet, carrying out changeovers during dedicated shutdown days and providing roll back strategies should issues occur on the 24/7 operation of the production line. All hardware was successfully converted and tested during the planned shutdowns utilising 1756-RIO adaptors to maintain communications between the new ControlLogix CPU and the legacy PLC 5 system.
